Restylane Silk is a dermal filler that has recently been approved for release in the United States! It’s the first and only FDA-approved product specifically designed for subtle lip enhancement and the smoothing of wrinkles and lines around the mouth in patients over 21 years of age.
Restylane Silk is part of the Restylane family of fillers and has produced excellent results in the area around the mouth and lips. Like other members of the Restylane family, Restylane Silk is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid—a sugar that is naturally present in your skin. Restylane Silk is typically injected more superficially and can be used for non-surgical lip augmentation/lip enhancement to create fuller lips, as well as for volume replacement in the creases around the mouth and nose.
Like other areas of the face, the lips and the skin surrounding the mouth show signs of aging as we get older. This often results in lip thinning, loss of shape, and an increase in vertical lines above the lips.
Restylane Silk is specifically designed to provide natural-looking results in these areas. That’s why it’s formulated with smaller, smoother particles than those used in other Restylane products.

Clinical Investigators Report:
In a clinical study comparing patients treated with Restylane Silk to those who received no treatment, clinical investigators reported the following:
- 77% of patients treated with Restylane Silk showed at least a one-point improvement in lip fullness (measured on a 5-point scale) eight weeks after treatment.
- 59% of patients-maintained lip fullness six months after treatment.
In the same clinical study, patients treated with Restylane Silk reported fast-acting, long-lasting results:
- 98% of patients reported visible improvement in lip fullness just 14 days after injection.
- 76% of patients still showed lip improvement six months after treatment.

What can restylane silk accomplish?

What happens during restylane silk injections?
A tiny needle is used for the injections, and the procedure takes less than 30 minutes. Lidocaine is included in the injection formula to help ease discomfort. Dr. Velargo and Dr. Hendrick also utilize cool compress anesthesia and acupressure techniques to make the injections as comfortable as possible.
If you wish, we are happy to apply a topical numbing cream before your injections. If you choose this option, we ask that you arrive approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment to allow the cream to take effect. We offer a very comfortable and relaxing “Quiet Room” within the clinic for your enjoyment.
After your injections, you may go home or relax in the Quiet Room for as long as you like.
Results are visible immediately and will continue to improve over the following days as the product attracts water.
What can I expect during recovery from restylane silk injections?
You can proceed with most of your activities, including returning to work, after you leave our office following injections with fillers. Most patients experience some minimal swelling, bruising, and soreness for a few days. You can cover any discoloration with makeup, apply cool compresses to reduce the inflammation, and apply topical Arnica Montana to speed the resorption of any bruising.
How long do the results of restylane silk last?
Restylane Silk injections last approximately 6 months, although some people have seen the results last longer.
In any case, the product stimulates the production of collagen in the skin, so less product may be needed for a similar result in subsequent maintenance injections.
